Students will be exposed to a wider range of genres that are suitable for an elementary choir. | |
S07MG5 – Journey From Trauma and Toward HealingBill Schecter, LSRHS History Teacher LSRHS Faculty and Staff $750 Grant will be used to partner with FELS and Alumni money to provide stipends to those directly exposed to the trauma at LS on Jan 19. These stipends will be used to help finance a healing activity or retreat for each individual affected by the events. |

S07MG6 – Document Projection to Enhance LS Math ClassesShara Pilch, LSRHS Math Teacher 9-12 $750 Purchase of a document camera to allow documents or any reasonably small article to be projected onto eh screen to be viewed by an entire mathematics class. This document camera will allow teachers to easily and spontaneously incorporate a variety of teaching materials into their daily teaching. |

S07MG7 – A Wampanoag ExperienceMelissa Schwendemann, Grade 2 – Loring $750 Project is designed to enhance the Second Grade Native American Unit by giving students hands-on experience with simulated Wampanoag artifacts. By giving the students these experiences, they will have a deeper understanding and appreciation of Wampanoag culture and history. |

S07MG8 – Audiobook PlayawaysGail Keene, Library Media Specialist – Loring $750 Audiobook Playaways are self-playing digital audiobooks which provide an opportunity for students to listen to and absorb fiction and non-fiction text, without the concern of rewinding, etc… These “books” will benefit the entire school population, as well as specific segments within that population. Special-education students with language-based learning disabilities, reluctant readers and visually impaired students will all specifically benefit from listening to audiobooks. |

S07MG9 – Math Enrichment/Challenge GamesJoni Jay, Principal – Nixon $750 To provide math games to enrich and challenge students in all grade levels. Games will reinforce math, logic and strategy concepts compatible with grade level curriculum. Games will be selected by teaching teams in each grade level and placed in the classrooms, and will be used to complement the curriculum throughout the year. Students will also have access to the games during indoor recess and other unstructured times. |

S07EG4 – Supplemental Math ManipulativeLibraryEmily Dolan, Jeanmarie Skahan, Julie Whitehead 4th grade teachers – Haynes $3500 Supplemental Math Manipulative Library will provide teacher friendly resources to enhance various math concepts taught throughout the grades. Teachers can use these materials in small groups to enrich and challenge students; as well as, providing extra practice for students who need reviewing and reinforcement. All staff members will house all games, activities, lessons, and manipulatives in a central location with easy access. |

S07EG5 – Japan TodayJane Hundley, Social Studies Curriculum Specialist $4142.60 To create a curriculum guide, based on district learning expectations, for first grade teachers; and to purchase non-fiction books and videos that present life in modern day Japan which will help children understand the daily experiences of adults and children. Project is intended to update and enrich 1 st grade curriculum study of Japan. |

S07EG6 – Expansion of the Technology/Engineering ProgramDavid Jurewicz, Technology/Engineering Teacher – Curtis Middle School $7438 All 8 th grade students will use LEGO pieces in combination with the RCX brick as well as MicroWorlds EX Robotics programming software to build and program robotic devices. The central concept of this course is to design and develop systems as well as devices that will be programmed to complete specific tasks. |

S07EG8 – Purple Loosestrife Bio-Control ProjectPaula Feynman, 6th Grade Science Teacher $4877.61 Grant would support a part of the Grade 6 Ecology unit, allowing students to set up an ecological site (wetlands); introduce plant life (purple loosestrife) and beetles to thereby observe the lifecycle of the beetles and their interaction with the loosestrife as way of controlling the loosestrife while allowing native species of plants to return in greater numbers. |

S07EG9 – Integrating Assessment Using palm Pilots in WellnessMarci Stoda, LSRHS Wellness Faculty $750 Use of Palm Pilots in high school wellness classes will help to better assess skills and provide immediate feedback for personal improvement, as well as increase efficiency in collecting student assessment data. |

S07EG10 – 2007 L-S Community SingRuth Hartt, LSRHS Choral Director Choral and Instrumental Students The LS Community Sing is an annual event that combines the LS chorus with guest singers in the performance of a choral masterwork, accompanied by an orchestra. Grant monies will help cover the costs of orchestral score rental and performance fees/royalties. |
