SERF Grants
Since its inception SERF has awarded over $660,000 in grants to educators serving our students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. This is where you can learn about grants that have been given and how to apply for a grant.
How to Apply for a Grant
SERF awards grants twice a year (generally in the Winter and Spring) through a Grant Application process. PDF versions of the pdf Grant Application forms are available from this site (see below). Six weeks prior to the submission deadline, forms are also available at the following locations: the front desk of each of the Sudbury schools including Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, the Sudbury Public Schools' Central Office, and the reference desk of the Goodnow Library. Proposals are blinded, then reviewed by the Grant Review Panel, comprised of SERF board members, who judge applications on their educational merit and applicability to SERF’s goals. The panel presents recommendations to the full board for discussion and approval. If requested, SERF will provide an advisor to assist applicants in preparing their applications.
What type of projects get funded?
SERF supports student enrichment and curriculum enhancement projects that expand a student’s problem-solving skills, self-esteem or knowledge base. Grants also support professional development opportunities for teachers. SERF funds two categories of grants.
Mini-grants
Mini grants are available for short-term projects, staff development activities, or curriculum enhancement totaling $750 or less.
Deadlines for application are:
- Monday, October 6, 2008
- Monday, December 1, 2008
- Monday, February 2, 2009
- Monday, April 6, 2009
Any grant request received by SERF by the deadline will be reviewed at the next Board meeting. Requests received in any month after the deadline will be reviewed at the second Board meeting following the submission.

Enrichment grants are intended for larger scale projects exceeding $750 that require significant amounts of staff time to develop and complete. Projects should focus on curriculum improvement, specialty department or system-wide application.
