Who is The Sudbury Education Resource Fund, Inc. (SERF)?

Supporting the Sudbury Public Schools. Supporting Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School. Supporting our childrens’ education. This is the mission for the Sudbury Education Resource Fund, Inc. We are a non-profit, tax-exempt organization established by the parents of Sudbury, dedicated to enriching and enhancing our public schools, from kindergarten through L-S. SERF provides supplementary grants to the schools augmenting classroom learning opportunities, expanding the curriculum and promoting professional development.

How does SERF help our schools?

SERF’s grants enable teachers, working alone or collaborating with colleagues, to shape innovative ideas into unique classroom projects or new curriculum initiatives that directly enrich children’s lives. In the words of Superintendent Dr. John Brackett, Ed.D, “[SERF’s grants] are incentives to expand, to be creative, to take a risk, and to maintain hope that [the teachers’] good ideas may have a future.”Most of these projects and initiatives would not be possible without SERF funding.

How do you apply for a grant?

SERF awards grants twice-a-year through a request process. Proposals are reviewed by the SERF Grant Review Panel who rank applications based on their educational merit and applicability to SERF’s goals. SERF grants recognize and motivate the dedicated people who seek them

How does the Sudbury Education Resource Fund differ from the PTO of each school?

Each school, K-12, has its own PTO and the funds generated are allocated to the PTO’s sub-committees. These subcommittees typically support already-existing programs such as “Craft Connection” which provides the majority of supplies for kindergarten thru third-grade craft projects; or for example, purchasing assignment books for third, fourth and fifth graders; or updating software and technology. This is money that fills in the gaps where the school budget may not be enough to cover given expenses.

Our grants enrich the public-school curriculum, inspire students and staff excellence, and expand our community’s involvement in our children’s education.
